No one can hear you scream in space: Derivation RP

A crew of 7 deep space miners find their ship suddenly losing power in the depths of space; no support, no communications and seemingly no escape... until suddenly <name>, the ship's robot, notices another ship! A large dark ship! A cold and ship, but a ship.

The crew use the last of their ship's power to land (crash) into the giant, black, behemoth's docking bay.

They alight their ship; they look around, but all they see is a cold, dark, lifeless shell. <name> confirms the air is breathable, old, very old in fact, but nevertheless, it is breathable.

They remove their suits, they are safe...for now!!!!

The rules

Objective

What horrors await you aboard Derivation? A giant, unknown ship, seemingly abandoned beyond the edge of known space. You cannot wait in the docking bay for forever, you have search this unknown maze and find a way home.

As you explore you will find more rooms, note it takes 15 minutes to move each dash and you only have 2 hours a turn do everything.

Story

I will try to keep game moving as quickly as a I can, with updates throughout, but be one big turn end very 24 hours. You can be as brief or as detailed as you wish with your development to the story, whatever dialogue or plot twists you add, I will try to work in. :)

Items

Each player can carry a certain number of items slots, with different items taking more or less room.

As you had to abandon ship, each player can only start off with one item slots worth of items (though you can decide what those items are), expect the Orc, who is allowed two due to his strength and size.

Slots work like this:

Image your normal pistol holder; well, the amount you can put in there, is the amount you can put in one 1 slot.

So a pistol would be 1 slot, but a rifle could be more like 3.

Battles/Actions

This is mostly role-play (works in similar manner to Zairak's zombie game), which means it will be based on your actions; so if you do something dumb, expect a dumb result. I will use my own logic and your justifications for my turn end results. However, for contentious moves, aka jumping across a slightly large gap, I will base it on a luck counter.
1%=You die
25% or less=Very bad luck
26%-50%=Bad-ish luck
51%-75%=Good (luck)
76&-99%=Amazing luck
100%=The hand of God!

Each turn lasts 2 hours and its takes 15 minutes to move between squares so you get do whatever you would do in that time realistically.

All actions should be done on the board because you 'generally' want to work together, but secret moves can be done by pm.

Finally, you can move things, about, pick things up...etc, but you are restricted by your characters strengths/load.

Puzzles/Problems

Throughout the game you will come across puzzles, riddles and other such things like a code locked door, it is up to you as players to work out these and solve their problems. Normally, there will be clues placed around to help you.

Sight

When you enter a new room or location, I will give a brief explanation of the area and what is inside it. I will highlight several key parts of the room (IE living room has 2 beds), but not of all these will be useful. Also less observant players may miss things and some things maybe hidden.

Psychics

We have psychics in this world, want a fight about it?

Willpower: This is what people and other sentients use to resist a psychic assault. You take the attackers psychic power's per cent and then take your will save away. The attacker must get that score or lower to win. A psychic assault cannot become less than 5%.
Example

Defender
Average=25%

Attacker
Psychic wave=70%

70-25=50 (need 50% or less for the power to work.)

Defenders' willpower levels:
Weak=10%
Average=25%
Strong=35%
Very Strong=50%

Special Powers

Each character has one special bonus power which they can use once per-game.

Characters

-Note:
1=Different types of players have different strengths and weaknesses.
2=Only one of each type can be taken.
3=You can play around with their back-stories and traits within reason.
4=You can name them.

 

Captain

Log: A fried old ex-soldier who was hoping that this last job would be enough to pay off his gambling debts so he could finally retire.

Items

5 slots.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Shooting: Being a ex-soldier he can handle a gun, however age and a life of drink have eroded his edge. In addition, he is no specials weapons expert; so do not expect him to weird rocket-launchers like a James Bond.

Close-Combat: Again, he can handle himself, but he is not as sharp as he once was. Furthermore, his fitness is less than it was. However, give him a sword, knife or other conventural weapon and he can still give you corpse.

Computer skills: Once more, he knows enough to download his porn and get through your average secure door, but he is no hacker.

Observational Skills: Despite his other skills dulling with age and 'drink', his wits remain as sharp as ever. He could smell a rat in a dung-pile.

Charisma: He is the Captain, what do you think? [ For those that do not get that derisive response, he is very charismatic and can easy get others to agree with him, even when they shouldn't. ]

Courage: He is very brave, especially when it is comes to Dutch-courage.

Psychic: Non

Willpower: Strong willed.

Special Power: All Hands On Deck This makes all characters around him fearless and heightens their close-combat powers.


 

Robot

Log: This is no battle droid, he is not strong, durable or some killing machine. Such robots are 'meant' to be outlawed following certain incidents followings the extremist-right wing world governments mandate that all citizens should have at least 1 battle droid in their home. Unfortunately, following this ill-thoughtout legislation, many of those small disputes over garden hedges and dogs peeing in the wrong garden became a little more heated...literally. Ironically, following the banning of these droids, the 'peace-mongers' claims that battle robots had no place in society also turned out to be a flawed ideology as Earth was invaded by the Pig People of Zeo-6. Anyway, I digress, this robot is used for his intellect and ability to work with the ultimate computer/calculator as crews fly through space at beyond light-speed...speeds. However, can robots be programmed for more than just complex Maths? Who knows what hackers and stalkers of the night have messed with his Windows 4010 mind.

Items

4 slots.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Shooting: He is prohibited by his programming to use a gun; however, should someone override this proturcal, then in theory, he is a perfect shot.

Close-Combat: His body is designed for repairing ships and light manual labour, but it is easily broken and should you find yourself in a fist fight, your bet is to run and hope your allies do not used you as a 'human' shield. Note, against this is not 'allowed' to fight.

Computer skills: As well as your insanely high IQ of 12000, you have been programmed with all the best hacking, an....blah blah blah...window's salesman pitch, you get the drill, he is good at this.

Observational Skills: Not naturally observant, however you do possess a program which allows you scan areas for:
-viruses and toxins in the air
-Hidden compartments
-Hidden lifeforms
=This has an 80% chance of success and takes 1 full hour to complete.

Charisma: He has no charisma.

Courage: He is not brave par-say, however he is not programmed to feel fear; so I guess he will never run away unless you make him do so.

Psychic: Non

Willpower: N/A

Special Power: Super Hacker/Genius: Can work out or hack pass one puzzle without you even trying.



 

Pilot

Log: This middle-aged mum had big plans in her youth until love and 2.4 kids came along. The pressures of raising a family with a drunk husband led her to smuggling 'drink' for extra cash; however, when GPF (the Global Police Federation) catch her in the act she find herself out of the job and in even worse financial state than before...now she owed gangsters money for the 'drink' she lost. So in need of work, she was stuck flying whatever nuts with a rust buck would take her. Then suddenly she gets off a good with real money... something told her that this missions pay was too good to be true, but she was willing to dream.

Items

5 slots.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Shooting: Although she had dreamed of being a commercial pilot, the course fees were too much for her to afford and so she joined the army's course which was free. However, she quickly she found out there is no such thing as a free lunch aside, this did give her some useful skills and knowledge of how to handle pistols and light-repeater rifles was one of them.

Close-Combat: Again, same as above.

Computer skills: Beginning a pilot takes brains and knowledge of how tech works while she is no droid, she can more than handle computers.

Observational Skills: Being a pilot means need to see a lot in a short space of time so she pretty observant; however, her rash nature does lead her to sometimes miss things which should be easy to spot.

Charisma: She is quite charismatic in mothering way. (Has different affects on males and females. For more details, play the game.)

Courage: She is very brave.

Psychic: She is psychic, but as yet, neither she nor any of the crew know this. This means her powers only work randomally and sporadically. She has a 10% chance in moments of extreme stress/emotion of releasing her power; however, as she has no control over the power, should this occur, who knows what the results will be.

Willpower: Weak

Special Power: Come fly away with me. She can fly...this is unlimited.


 

Security Officer

Log: This young and arrogant pup got himself thrown out the GPF training corps for, well anything you can think of which would not result in a prison sentence. Though, he could have been a skilled officer, his own ego always has and possibly always will be his guiding force.

Items

6 slots.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Shooting: He is a crack shot and has basic training (which can be built upon) in the use of specialist and heavy weapons.

Close-Combat: Both hand-to-hand and mella based combats are his forte.

Computer skills: He is smart, but lazy so he missed the class on computers. Yep, he sucks with them.

Observational Skills: His rash, do first, think second nature means he misses a lot of things.

Charisma: In a fight or dangerous situation, his bravery can be inspiring; however, he is no leader an his argumentative/abrasive behaviour means others will not follow him into the breach once more.

Courage: He is stupidly brave.

Psychic: He has no psychic powers.

Willpower: Average

Special Power: Highlander: He can instantly win one fight.


 

Orces

Log: For centuries mankind wondered why aliens had not ever visited their home; were they too enlighted, were they hidden among us, were they gods? When mankind finally found aliens, the truth was some what underwhelming. It turned out they were too dumb. Orcs were the first aliens mankind ever discovered which was not a worm or bug and it still ate its own dung for breakfast. Remember I said that battle droids were band? Well following this mankind had lost its main grunt labour force (by this time China had become a superpower, had a nuclear war and ceased to exist) so Mankind, ever the enlightened race that it was, decided to help this new-found race by invading their home-world and then enslaved them as 'cheap' labour...well they are not human; so can they really what human rights? Our nameless wonder is one of these slaves used as a free-miner/grunt worker in the mission.

Items

10 slots.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Shooting: Although their brute strength allows them to wield a volcan-cannon like it was a toy, they still cannot hit <poo>.

Close-Combat: Give him something big and blunt, and let him show you.

Computer skills: He can smash the computer, that may help?

Observational Skills: Errr, he can see, if that helps?

Charisma: Err, well if you order him to punch anyone who tries to run away, I guess I would choose carefully over whether to run away.

Courage: He is brave.

Psychic: He has no psychic powers.

Willpower: Weak against mindcontrol; strong against everything else.

Special Power: Hulk Smash: He can become super strong for a turn, meaning he move, pit up or smash something insanely big and stupid with ease.


 

Medic

Log:This young wannabe doctor failed her final exams, must to the shame of her world-famous mother, taking work as medic for whoever would hire her. So here she is, lost in space and no trust fund to save her.

Items

6 slots.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Shooting: She loved hunting as a kid so can handle most rifles.

Close-Combat: A knowledge of the human body means she is handy in a knife fight.
-Can also choose to use first-aid (if have the supplies) on people and if you find a medical room more serious operations as well.

Computer skills: She can use them, if no master hacker.

Observational Skills: She observational skills are keen when she is focusing on something due to her doctor training; however, she has a habit of missing the bigger picture.

Charisma: She is selfish and self-obsessed...Still, she also attractive and has boobies so I guess she has her charms...[ fared limited games do not endorse sexism...honest!!!! ]

Courage: She is a coward most of the time, but when the poo really hits the fan there may be hidden strengths to her.

Psychic: Like most modern medics she has been given some psychic training, however it mostly medical based and quite weak.
Mind Control: Woman-10% chance Male 20% (Only gay men and hex-female characters get will saves.)
Sense=Cannot yet use this
Psychic push=This has a 20% chance of working and basic move things about with your mind, blend spoons, the old lot. Should you use this on people, it cannot be resisted.
Psychic wave=Cannot yet use this.
Mind reader=You can read someones thoughts (20%) (this when used on players shows pms sent to the GM by that player. ) When used on bots you will know what they wish to do before they do it.
Heal=40%=can heal minor wounds and lessen the effects of more major ones.

Willpower: Average.

Special Power: A Pokemon's tears:Can completely heal one player.


 

Psychic

Log: Whatever is causing the mutation that is causing is psychics to appear remains unknown; however, that is not stopping the nameless corporations, like yours', from abusing their power and greed. Despite being able to hide your powers from the authorities and the strict laws they impose upon psychics, you still felt trapped on earth and so for you, it was not just greed which brought your sardonic ass on this mission, it was a sense of adventure. Of course, the money helped!

Items

4 slots.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Shooting: He is a better shot than the orc...maybe?

Close-Combat: He knows what a knife is...maybe?

Computer skills: He can use computers, but is no expert.

Observational Skills: Despite being a sardonic ba-stool, you are quite shrewd and observant. Plus, when searching for attackers, hiders or watches your powers can as a secondary sense. This has a 65% chance of working, but can be resisted by oppositions willpower.

Charisma: You are not naturally charismatic, but you do have some ability to control peoples minds with suggestions and illusions. The weaker the mind's will, the greater the effect. This has a 60% chance of working, but can be resisted by willpower.

Courage: He is a total courage.

Psychic: Further to the above you can also use:
Psychic push=This has a 95% chance of working and basic move things about with your mind, blend spoons, the old lot. Should you use this on people, it cannot be resisted.
Psychic wave=You can use medium blast of psychic energy as an attack (70%). It cannot be resisted.
Mind reader=You can read someones thoughts (50%) (this when used on players shows pms sent to the GM by that player. ) When used on bots you will know what they wish to do before they do it.

Willpower: Very strong.

Special Power: Mind Crush:Can leave one person/creature a drooling, basically dead zombie.

0mnislash’s eyes snapped open; his senses were addled and confused, but still he heard the alarm…the ships the alarm? He jumped out of bed and sped down the short corridor between his cabin and the bridge…well what constituted a bridged on his old rust bucket of a ship. “What is going on?” He shouted above the noise of the alarm.

Fenrir looked back at him. Her dark brown eyes showed a mix of fear and anger. “Good of you to join us…General!” She, like everyone, called him general, no one knew if he actually was or ever had been a general, whenever questioned about this fact, he become somewhat drunker and even more vague about his already vague past.

“Less of your lip, what is going on?” He growled.

“I do not know, she is moaning at me, but all systems seem to be working fine.” Fenrir replied.

“Then I am going back to bed…next time do not wake me when there is no prob…” A large bang on the starboard stopped him in his tracks. “What the hell?”

“Power?” Fenrir shouted.

“What?” 0mni growled.

“We are losing the power, in 10 minutes all systems will be gone…including life support.” Fenrir answered, panic clear in her voice.

“Abandon ship.” Screamed 0mni.

… “General? General? Are you ok?” 0mni shuck his head, his flash back to what had just happened and looked at the ever ‘reliable’ DP, the ship’s medic.

“What?” He asked, still in a state of mild shock.

“Aster has an update on where we are.” She spoke in exsbation and fear.

“Errr.r….right? What is this place?” He looked around, they appeared to have broken into the hanger…although there did not appear to any ships. There was a pile of crates in the corner and a docking computer at the other end, as well as two closed doors, one going south, the other east.

“Inconclusive Captain.” Aster replied unhelpfully.

“General, I told you before, I am called General.” 0mni grumbled.

“Captain…beeb…your personal log has you logged as…beeb…Captain…! I could call you Captain General.”

0mni facepalmed. “What is the air like?”

“Primary scan shows the air is breathable. Power remains in at least this area of the ship. As do primary life-support functions.”

“Well that is good, I hate these suits.” The bash and rash Celtic went to pull off his helmet before 0mni shouted. “No…!”

He turned and looked at him. “I am in charge, I should test it.” 0mni explained. 0mni removed his helmet and their adventure began.

Celtic heads to the locker room

Fenrir heads to the computer, it is large, dull grey coloured and covered in dust. Furthermore, it has a range of buttons; however, the years have decayed its paint and so it is impossible to what any of them do. It appears turned off...Fenrir waits to act???

Grim confuses everyone nicely and looks at the crates...they appear to be sized 5 meters in lenght and 2 meters high. Most seem locked, but 1 of them has a loose lid.

Ninja is the ships dog...stats tomorrow.
