This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

Default Microsoft Project Natal

http://uk.videogames.games.yahoo.com/blog/article/3578/

Quote:
More Amazing than Wii
"This is a pivotal moment that will carry with it a wave of change, the ripples of which will reach far beyond video games." STEVEN SPIELBERG

Unless it has a Wii-beating secret up its sleeve for this evening Nintendo will be nervous today after Microsoft's unveiling of no-controller-required gaming. This astonishing possibility requires an Xbox 360 console and a device currently code-named ?Project Natal' (pronounced "nuh-tall") that sits beneath the TV. The latter is effectively a camera combined with a microphone and depth sensor, working its magic thanks to clever-clogs Microsoft software running on a custom processor.

As you will see in this video the results are astonishing, to the extent that Wii Sports now looks prehistoric. Whereas the Wii remote, currently the most impressive gadget around for gaming, crudely tracks the movement of one hand, Project Natal tracks a person's full body movement - individual fingers and all. You can enjoy some kung-fu, full-body shadow making, and giddy puzzle games using all that nature gave you. No batteries required, just quite a bit of stamina judging by the family in the video.

On top of all that, Project Natal can recognise your face and facial expressions. It can even detect emotions playing on your voice. This means you won't ever need to lift a finger to log-in to your personal profile, the Xbox 360 console will see who's standing or sitting before it and do that for you. Computer game characters will see and hear if you're feeling happy or sad. Imagine a game that judges your acting skills, let alone the usual dancing around and making funny poses. It seems corny to say, but the possibilities could be endless.

It was movie director Steven Spielberg who helped introduce Project Natal last night in Los Angeles, in itself a huge commendation for its potential. While we might get a little excited about Spielberg's popular Wii game "Boom Blox" coming to Xbox 360 now that motion-sensing gaming has come of age on Xbox 360, it's the non-gaming possibilities that we think will impress a much wider audience; the kind of audience that Nintendo has brilliantly recruited for its DS and Wii consoles.

Could Xbox 360 and Project Natal be the new Wii? Is this the future for family interaction with the living room telly full stop? We still don't know when Project Natal will arrive, but our hopes are for Christmas this year

Sounds like a beefed up eye toy (which was extremely boring after the novelty wore off.) I wish Microsoft would stick to ripping off Nintendo's good ideas. This whole idea of wiggling around like a jackass to play a game doesn't interest me one bit.

lol... That is what I want to do. Actually throw a punch out to fight something in a video game...

I don't like the Wii-Mote as it is, and now they are going this route? And you want to know what I think? The reaction time in-game for this thing is going to be shit. Seriously, this is just getting stupid now.

I will be sticking with my Playstation systems that I can actually relax and hold a controller instead of moving around and swinging my arms like a maniac all the time.

I like the idea and I would ditch my Nintendo (Unless they have any other good ideas for it? Pulse, Plus and whatnot are good but... This looks interesting)
The only problem most people I know would have with it is me XD
When the Wii came out and I went for it instead of them going for the PS3 and the Xbox, they started insulting me about how stupiud I would look playing, Waving my arms around...
Well guys, Enjoy ^_^

Although I don't have an Xbox, I think Project Natal seems really interesting because if this becomes successful, imagine how many games there will be that allows for this kind of playing. I don't care if I'm swinging my arms around like a maniac, I find it fun and interactive because Project Natal will make it feel like I'm actually in the game instead of grabbing a controller and pressing buttons. Also, don't feel down Spoofs, some people like the interactive kind of playing while others prefer the button pressing playing.

Also, you guys should check out Project Milo, it is probably one of the most craziest things out there that involves Natal but I'm not sure if it's going to be a game or not. Probably, they were trying to show how interactive Project Natal can be.

Socially it's a great thing I think... even if it's not that good for games, the social side, i.e. connecting people in this way is quite... i dunno... sci-fi-ish

Video conferencing is nothing new, but with an interactive, motion-sensitive interface... that's quite hollywood sci-fi (particularly thinking of when in the trailer, those girls were picking out dresses)

That part's the most attractive to me (not the picking out dresses bit) but the general capabilities of that kind of thing...

Even though I say the social part is a great thing, it is also the flaw with the project - it further reduces the need to actually be with people face-to-face in same room, which is a bad thing. On the one hand it brings people together over a distance in a different and more interactive way, on the other hand, because they're able to do this in a way that emulates a person's actual presence, they might be less inclined to meet up in person.

Nope, too gimmicky. You need buttons to give precise controls. There is no way it can recognize every hand function.

Give it time... obviously even though this is something they're planning to bring out in 2010, there will still be gratuitous amounts of improvements to make on it... I wouldn't get this as is, I'd wait for the technology to get better, for the bugs to be mostly fixed etc...

Also, there will be a controller with it, just in case.

Bonus would be on fighting games albeit I would thinke you'd have an extremely limited range or else would be too slow. The social interaction thing could come in handy. As much as I hate video games (yes I actually said that) I've got to admit the whole Wii thing does get you out of your seat and this would only be more so. Personally I'm olde school, if there's more than A , B and the up, down, left, right button I hate playing so for me this would be a lil better.

This is my general viewpoint on this.

With the associated commentary...

There has been quite a lot to see at E3 this year, which we’ll get into during the podcast, but the Project Natal video was a little much for me. It doesn’t help when the disclaimer calls it a ‘product vision’ which could also read ‘wishful thinking’. Of course we can hope that the technology really is there, and some people are already believers, but it’s more fun to find potential flaws!

nice idea, makes me want to get an X-box 360 simply to get this product.

But the voice controls might have problems with people that don't enunciate properly.

I also see confusing signals for the motion sensors involving people that are unsteady, either on their feet or folks whose hands shake.
Bottom line: the thing needs controllers of some sort.

(duplicate topic deserves duplicate posts, haha JR)
